IHE
SOUTHERN BRANCH
Local branches cover the whole of the United Kingdom and are a vital part of the Institute. Committees of Members organise and run site visits, technical presentations, seminars and contribute ideas and views.
Within the Southern Branch we have an active Committee drawn from representatives in both the Public and Private sectors who organise events for the benefit and further education of our members. It is our objective to hold six events each year in addition to our Annual Winchester Seminar (usually held in May) and our traditional Charity Fund Raising Event – "Wine & Wisdom" – (November).
The "Wine & Wisdom" event has raised many thousands of pounds for Children’s Charities which reflects positively on both the Institute and its individual members. Over the past years the following have been beneficiaries of our efforts:
St Christopher's Hospice, Guildford
Shooting Stars Hospice, Hampton
Children with Special Needs Foundation
DebRA
Cherry Trees (to whom we donated a bed)
White Lodge Centre, Chertsey
The Rainbow Trust
When planning events, we endeavour to hold these across the region to ensure that as many members as possible have the opportunity to attend thus maintaining their professional knowledge and achieving Certification of Professional Development (CPD); a requirement of the Engineering Council. Most of our events qualify for such certification.
The following events have also been arranged over the past years:
Environment Agency’s flood alleviation works in Chichester
Visit to the A3 Hindhead improvement scheme and viewing progress on the tunnel
Highways Agency Regional Control Centre, Godstone
Laser Scanning Technology
Heathrow Terminal 5 when under construction
