Message from the Southern Branch Chairman August 2010 Welcome to the Southern Branch Web Site and I hope that you will find something of interest to you in our pages. Sadly it seems that our British summer is reverting to form with unsettled weather now dominating the scene so if you were a "stayvacation" person enjoying the delights of the UK I hope that despite the weather you have been able to enjoy some valuable downtime. The Branch Committee have enjoyed some brief break but we have also been putting together events that are being developed for the forthcoming autumn, winter and even into 2011. Have a look at the Future Events page and keep visiting us frequently – this is where you will find out what the Branch is doing to enhance your professional knowledge and membership of IHE. Our recent Road Death Investigation Manual mini seminar was very well attended which is a reflection of the concern that many members have in respect of their responsibility should a road death (or "life changing") collision occur. Though a "heavy" subject (when is anything to do with the law a light matter?) feedback has been very positive and I am sure that this topic will be ongoing especially when the first prosecutions under the Corporate Manslaughter & Homicide Act come to court. A report of this event is on the Past Events page. Through hard work and doggedness on our part, we have now been able to secure a site visit to the A3 Improvements to take place in September. Sorry, but due to restriction on numbers this event must be restricted to IHE members only and bookings will be taken strictly on a "first come, first served" basis. Flyer is on the Future Events page. We also have other events confirmed but the precise dates and venue have yet to be determined. Outline information is also on the Future Events page. As always, we will welcome any ideas from you that will make an interesting presentation or site visit. Just drop an email to the Branch Secretary who will do the "hard work", unless of course you wish to do it ???? We are proud of the work we do on behalf of our members; some Branches may claim that they are "probably the most active in IHE" our modest claim is that we are "definitely the most active branch in IHE".
